When Spirit and Soul Collide

Gal 5:16: "I say then: ??Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. ?For ??the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, ?w?so that you do not do the things that you wish.? But ??if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. " Recently I was out doing some evangelism and there was a member of the team who, to be honest, didn't want to be there, but felt to be under some compulsion to be there. God started to move quite powerfully over a non christian we'd met and all seemed to be well, but then I increasingly became aware that I was being influenced by this raging soul beside me and found that God did increasingly less and less as I gave way to the power of the flesh and not the Spirit. I was really cross with myself for being affected by this, as I know in my heart that the power of the Spirit is far superior to the power of the soul. We need to get to a place where, like Elijah on Mount Carmel, we are not affected by man but are so strongly focused on God that all other influences cease to have an impact. My only consellation is that Elijah then fell into exactly the same trap as I did when Jezebel threatened to to his life as a result of this Mount Carmel incident. There's hope for me yet!
